Yahoo Answers If you've passed your test before 1st January 1997 you should have category D1 on your licence which allows you to drive a bus with 16 passenger seats but not for hire or reward. If you've passed your test after 1st January 1997 you can drive a vehicle with up to 8 passenger seats.

If you do not have D1 on your licence and wish to drive a minibus up to 16 passengers the voluntary or community organisation will need to apply for a 'section 19 or 22 permit' from VOSA(I think) to allow a driver with a car licence to drive a bus.
